Sherwood Johnson campaigned this highly significant 1950 Jaguar XK120 roadster nicknamed The Beast. Imported to the United States by Hoffman Motors, NY, NY. To demonstrate the model's racing potential, the car quickly established itself as a formidable competitor. It had the first 3 carburetor Jaguar set up as a prototype for the C-Type & D-Type manifolds. Johnson was one of the top drivers of these cars, often competing alongside many famous drivers in American road races during the early 1950s. Chassis 670767 was modified in the winter of 1951 by removing the original steel body & replacing it with special aluminum-body. The new body work was done by Joe Viherek in his Rhode Island shop. In its modified configuration, the car appeared in many road races across America. Its most notable achievement came at the legendary Mount Washington Hillclimb Auto Race in 1953, where it captured 1st Overall and lst in

Class in Class C Modified. In 1957, the car was sold to Roger Dowd of Weston, MA. Roger continued to campaign it in road racing events and returned it to the Climb to the Clouds on multiple occasions. Remarkably, its most recent ascent of Mount Washington came in 2021. Proud of the Jaguar's remarkable racing heritage, Roger has gifted this historic automobile to the New England Racing Museum, where it can now be enjoyed and appreciated by racing fans for generations to come.
